My Thoughts on President Trump’s Speech to the Joint Session of Congress (VIDEO)

My Thoughts on President Trump's Speech to the Joint Session of Congress

I thought President Trump gave a very persuasive and measured speech for the politically uninitiated. Here is my initial deconstruction.

The danger of the Trump speech is that many Americans would buy the tone as substance. It is incumbent on progressives to deconstruct the speech that illustrates the fraud that it is.

Trump used his speech to ingratiate himself with black people as he demonized immigrants. He continued his demonization of Muslims. He appealed to a nationalism that can no longer exist in the form he talks about it. He is isolating the country from the world while he intends to blow up the military budget. He made crime in America seem much more intense than reality.

Trump’s healthcare plan as explained, mimics Paul Ryan’s decimation of the economic and humane protections of Obamacare.

Trump continues to talk about making America great again by making sure it is always America first. The working class that he purports to support should remember that two of his first set of Executive Orders, materially affected them. Coal companies were allowed to dump ash into their streams. Secondly, Trump implicitly increased the mortgage of new home buyers with an Executive Order that suspended the 0.25 percentage point premium rate cut for Federal Housing Administration-backed loans.

Again, the words mean nothing. We must look at the President’s deeds.

Politics Done Right will cover this in more detail on Thursday.
