The news media has improved some. Fox News Shepard Smith called out several statements Donald Trump made at the joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. And he did it in no uncertain terms.
Shepard Smith calls out Donald Trump
Fox News Shepard Smith is on a tear recently as he continues to call out Donald Trump’s lies even as his network continues to appease him. The toughest questions came from a couple of German reporters.
A German reporter asked the President why he was so scared of diversity in the media. The same reporter asked Angela Merkel if President Trump’s isolationist posture worries her. Trump took it personally and accused the reporter of being unfriendly. He also said he is not isolationist and supports free but fair trade. Merkel sidestepped the response and morphed into what she is doing to make Europe better.
The second German reporter pressed Trump on his accusation that President Obama wiretapped him. Trump made a sly remarking claiming that President Obama wiretapped both himself and Merkel. He then used a Fox News commentator as a source. Soon after on Fox News, it was clear that Shepard Smith was not going to let that slide.
“Fox News cannot confirm Judge Napolitano’s commentary,” said Shepard Smith. “Fox News knows of no evidence of any kind that the now president of the United States was surveilled at any time in any way, full stop.”
It is clear that to even Fox News, Donald Trump has gone too far and they are not willing to lose much more credibility on the news side. After all, in the event of a Trump demise, they must have some plausible deniability on their longstanding support for such a flawed president. Well, it is better that they are late than for them to not have come.
