On April 15, 2017, at 4:30 PM, at Texas Southern University’s Sawyer Auditorium, members of a broad coalition of Houston progressive groups including; Women and Allies, Indivisible Houston, Pantsuit Republic Houston and Drinking Liberally, hosted a Town Hall for US Senator Ted Cruz. Uniting under the premise that our elected officials work for us, the coalition put out a call to Senator Cruz to hold his first open Town Hall in Houston since he has been in office.

After crowdfunding close to $5,000 to pay for the rental of the nearly 2,000 seat auditorium, the coalition held the town hall without the presence of Senator Cruz.
“Senator Cruz and all of our elected officials work for us, said, Nisha Randle, a member of the Town Hall planning team. “It’s very telling where the Senator’s priorities lie when the only constituents who he will regularly meet with are his big donors”.
Many community organizers and policy experts answered questions posed by Senator Cruz’s continents.
Starting at 2:30, before the Town Hall, representatives from many organizations including Planned Parenthood, United We Dream, and Battleground Texas participate in a People’s Fair to provide information on the services they provide and ways attendees can increase their engagement in the political process through these various groups.
