Jimmy Kimmel’s story could not have come at a better time. Especially in a time when Trump and Ryan are trying to destroy Obamacare in order to pay for a tax cut that goes mostly to the wealthy.

Jimmy Kimmel used his personal story about the heart defect his son was born with to illustrate the wisdom of Obamacare solution to preexisting conditions.

Kimmel and his wife Molly welcomed their second child together, William “Billy” Kimmel. At three days old, Billy had successful open heart surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and is now home with his family. Jimmy opens up about his son’s birth and health complications and encourages donations to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where Billy and so many other kids get such wonderful care (chla.org/donate).
Near the end, after Kimmel was done telling his story, he became justifiably political. He thanked Congress for completely disregarding president Trump’s budget that cut six billion dollars from the NIH. The Congress increased that budget by two billion dollars.
Jimmy Kimmel pointed out that pre-Obamacare, someone like his son would be uninsurable because he was born with a preexisting condition.
“If your baby is going to die and it doesn’t have to,” Kimmel said. “It shouldn’t matter how much money you make. I think whether you are a Republican or a Democrat or something or something else, we all agree on that. Right? I mean we do.”
Kimmel then gave a call to action that everyone should heed.
“Whatever your party,” Kimmel said. “Whatever you believe. Whoever you support. We need to make sure that the people who are supposed represent us, the people who are meeting about this right now in Washington understand that very clearly. Let’s stop with the nonsense. This isn’t football. There are no teams. We are the team. It’s the United States. Don’t let their partisan squabbles divide us on something every decent person wants. We need to take care of each other.”
This was a powerful testimony because it came attached to a real life story that could affect anyone of us. More people need to do this. Good job Jimmy.
