President Trump went to Saudi Arabia and made a speech on May 21st, 2017 that is best characterized as one of appeasement. The following snippets from the speech should embarrass every American as our president seemed like a frolicking beggar.
Donald Trump made a fool of himself in Saudi Arabia
The president that was anti-Muslim went over to Saudi Arabia, one of the most oppressive governments in the world, and praised them. He showered King Salman and his country with undeserved accolades.
In the clip above you would think he was talking about Germany or some other country that has attempted to invest in programs and policies that improve the world and their people.
“I want to thank King Salman for his extraordinary words, and the magnificent Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting today’s summit,” Trump said. “I am honored to be received by such gracious hosts. I have always heard about the splendor of your country and the kindness of your citizens, but words do not do justice to the grandeur of this remarkable place.”
The man who blurted out Muslim insults as he criticized the religion throughout his campaign later said the following.
“America will not seek to impose our way of life on others, ” Trump said. “Our meetings with King Salman, the Crown Prince, and the Deputy Crown Prince have been filled with great warmth, good will, and tremendous cooperation. … We are not here to lecture—we are not here to tell other people how to live, what to do, who to be, or how to worship. Instead, we are here to offer partnership.
The American president later made an interesting statement that elevated Saudi Arabia to new heights.
“King Salman, I thank you for the creation of this great moment in history,” Trump said. “And for your massive investment in America, its industry and its jobs. I also thank you for investing in the future of this part of the world. This fertile region has all the ingredients for extraordinary success – a rich history and culture, a young and vibrant people, a thriving spirit of enterprise.”
This act of appeasement in his remarks is not a speech that any hardcore Trump follower would expect. But it is clear that Trump is doing two things. He is overcompensating for his vitriolic rhetoric during his campaign, and he is keeping his business interests open by ignoring the oppressive nature of many of the regimes he praised.
