Chris Hayes said what I have been saying for months now about the Russia story distracting from issues that are more immediately impactful to middle-class America. Obamacare is in crisis for 2018 because of uncertainty and Trump sabotage, and it gets little coverage. It will be the story of 2018.
Chris Hayes hits the nail on the head, Russia ideal for Trumpcare passage
While it is not entirely intuitive, the complete engulfment into the Russia scandal created the bait & switch Republicans needed to pass Trumpcare. Chris Hayes made that exact point during the last segment of All-In.
“I think there is a case to be made that Russia right now is helping the Senate pass a health care bill,” Chris Hayes said. “I think that if there was more …”
His panel started to chuckle unable to think outside of the box. Remember most of these same panelists thought Trump could never become president.
Hayes continued.
“I mean this totally, entirely, “Chris Hayes continued. “They would rather do this in secret with no public scrutiny, with no coverage. Which is what they are doing. And try to flip out a bill in forty-eight hours and vote on it. And that actually, you say they don’t want to be talking about it. They would rather talk about this than the health care bill.”
One of the panelists brought up the dramatic response that Americans had to Trumpcare when it was in the spotlight. She said the reaction would be the same.
“The American people can walk and chew gum actually better than Republicans in Congress can,” the panelist said.
The other panelist said that the American people care much more about health care than the Russia scandal.
“Here is the last thing about the politics of this,” Chris Hayes said. “I do think there is a degree to which norms that have been transgressed by the president vis a vis James Comey are quite important, quite shocking actually. I also think they are quite remote to voters. There is a little bit of educational opportunity for the Senators tomorrow of both parties to explain to people why it matters that the president doesn’t go around saying, ‘He’s my buddy. Would you lay off?’ when you are the president.”
Hayes was trying to point out that while most in the political class would see the Russia Scandal as serious as it is, the average Americans even though concerned won’t. If the Republicans pass Trumpcare, the president may still have the ability to sell it to enough people.
Right now in many places, Obamacare is in trouble for 2018. The price hikes and lack of coverage on the marketplaces that are on the horizon may make the sell easier. Obamacare may get the blame even though it is Trump and the health care companies sabotage that are causing the problems. They may succeed because the time that should have been spent by Obamacare supporters to educate the masses on the impending price hikes was spent on the Russia Scandal almost exclusively.
