Joy-Ann Reid did not allow a Conservative Republican spox to use her platform to spread misinformation. It did not take her long to put him in check. Most importantly she did not allow him to speak again for those particular reasons.
Avik Roy attempted to make the cuts in Trumpcare seem minimal. Joy-Ann Reid made sure she did not leave his false information dangling for long. Roy is the President of the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity.

Joy-Ann Reid first enumerated the bad things that the Graham-Cassidy bill would bring to fruition.
- Repeals insurance subsidies
- Ends Medicaid Expansion
- Replaces ACA Spending with Block Grants to States
- Eliminates Exchanges
- Allows Higher Premiums for Pre-existing Conditions
Reid further pointed out that the bill violated all the principles that Republicans who previously voted against Trumpcare said was important to them.
“How is this good policy or good politics,” Reid asked.
Avik said he disagreed with Reid’s characterization of Trumpcare. He claimed that the decrease would only be 10% as if an already strained and depleted system could lose another 10%. Of course, he did not acknowledge that after 2026 some funding is going away altogether.
“So yes it is less money, about 10% less money,” Roy said. “But it is not like dramatically less money. So yes if you’d like the government to spend more, you won’t like this bill. But it is not a dramatic departure from the amount of spending in the system before.”
Joy-Ann Reid did not let that slide.
“Just to correct you on one thing, it is dramatically less spending,” Reid reiterated. “If you are telling states; you have 50 different mismatched healthcare systems, but we are going to give you less money, and then after 2026 we are going to eliminate this spending, altogether, in terms of the subsidies to people, yeah, it is dramatically less money.”
Reid also pointed out that every major healthcare group and State Medicaid Administrators in all 50 states came out against the bill and said the bill is a horror.
Roy said he disagreed with Reid. Her answer was prescient.
“You can’t disagree with math,” Reid said.
Roy responded that he had a different understanding.
“Of math?” a shocked Reid asked. “Okay, Alright.”
