GOP Strategist Steve Schmidt continues calling out the Republican Party for what it has become. He joins David Brooks who recently described the rot of the party and others.
This GOP strategist and professor unloaded on the Republican government for its incapacity to govern, meanness, and moral decrepitness.

The conversation segment started with MSNBC Host Stephanie Ruhle’s expressing disgust that the Republican Party would deny insurance to children (CHIP). Princeton University Professor Eddie Glaude explained the callousness of the Republicans.
“You think about what Senator Orrin Hatch said on the floor in the Senate,” Eddie Glaude said. “That we are broke. We don’t have the money. And we know that the Estate Tax that is in the tax plan is more expensive than CHIP. What we have here Stephanie, we talk about monetary deficits; we have a value deficit in this country. What do we value? What do we cherish?”
Ruhle came back with a poignant question that further shows the moral lacking of the Republican Party.
“One of Roy Moore points I think was ‘Roy Moore loves children. Doug Jones loves abortion,'” Ruhle said. “If it is the party of family values, in order to be a family, that includes children.”
“It is not,” GOP Strategist Steve Schmidt interjected. “The hypocrisy and the rot are worthy of discussion., the meanness, the cruelty. This is simple to understand. I’ve spent my life in the Republican Party. This party has demonstrated a complete incapacity to govern. Period. And I think that there will be a tsunami comes 2018 that wipes it away.”
Ruhle kept pressing for answers.
“You are still not answering my question,” Ruhle said. “I want to understand. Who is the body that is saying, ‘This isn’t a good political move? We don’t have the money.’ They have the money when they want the money.”
Professor Glaude explained Republican values and why the money supposedly isn’t there.
“Part of what I am trying to say is that there is a hierarchy of concern,” Glaude said. “We don’t have the money because we are busy giving money to our donors. We don’t have the money because we are governing for the top one percent.”
“They don’t care,” Steve Schmidt continued after some back and forth. “Period. The government is corrupted. It is not about regular people. It is not about that vulnerable child. This tax bill is a payoff.”
Professor closed the section of the segment with a poignant statement all must heed.
“Each generation must achieve democracy for itself,” the professor said. “We have to do the work that democracy requires of us because it is fragile. And it is on life support. Folks need to go out to the polls. They need to take control of their immediate circumstance. And in someway try to save the country from itself.”
The statement from the professor echo’s a statement President Obama recently made about complacency. Donald Trump and his Republican cabal is a result of that apathy.
