It was a huge Progressive Democratic win! Disregard mainstream media punditry

Congratulations! Victory! A great win!

Democrats and Progressives won big on Tuesday. If one follows the president and several Progressive and Conservative Pundits, one would believe it was a split decision or a status quo election. It was not. I’ve since written several articles and dedicated several Politics Done Right shows to this topic because it is essential that we not allow the president or the promoters of gloom to bring spirits down on false metrics.

Nationally, we won the House and netted at least seven governorships. We elected an unprecedented number of women. We made a statement in Trump’s ethnic-racist America by bringing to office two Muslim women. We turned at least six state legislatures blue. Three Red States demanded the Medicaid Expansion to Obamacare. Several states voted in favor of recreational marijuana and an increased minimum wage. My county, the third largest county in the country and the largest county in Texas went solid blue wiping out all countywide officials. We replicated this reality in many regions across our nation.

It would have been wonderful if Beto O’Rourke, Stacey Abrams, Bill Nelson, and Andrew Gillum had won (3 of those are still up in the air). While those races made good TV, the change in the political infrastructure at every level is more impactful to most. And we excelled on those throughout the country.

Remember, the engineered Republican control is a constitutional flaw. That a Senator from a state with a million people has the same power as one representing 10s of millions is anti-democratic irrespective of the founders intent. That gerrymandering means one party must get at least 6% more votes for a similar outcome is a flaw in our representative democracy. We are working on options that do not require the impossibility of a constitutional amendment to mitigate these types of aberrations. At this point in our history, absent ingenious ways around the flaws in our formative document and a Supreme Court that is the ward of the plutocracy, we would become but some quasi-feudal system as we are all relegated to indentured servitude. That’s why we fight.

Sisters & brothers let’s lift our heads high. Let’s not succumb to a narrative that attenuates the sweetness of our success. We have activated populations that were either apathetic or thought they did not make a difference, or that no one cared about for decades. And through our media and personal touch, we will continue to activate more.

That said,  it is not solely about winning. One has to nurture the newly elected. One must monitor those politicians who profess to be working for us to ensure they are not captured by those who do not have our best interest at hand.

The mainstream media is lax in being the absolute dependable source exposing politicians and informing us appropriately. They are partially responsible for Trump’s win and decades of Republican intransigence.  But then, they must balance which master they are serving, the special interests that advertise, or the population they were designed to inform unabashedly. This reality makes the lives of good journalists difficult.

Independent Media voluntarily funded with micro-contributions by the many is the solution. It is the model activist journalist are building throughout the country. Please be a part of this movement and subscribe to Politics Done Right and other independent sources you trust.

You won, and you won big. Now we work to make it not only lasting but growing. Our work is just beginning.

Sincerely,
Egberto Willies
