Angelina Lawson talks winning and governing as a Progressive in a Red District

Angeliina Lawson is the epitome of what Progressives have been attempting to get across to the Democratic Party at large for a long time. She did not search for a mythical center when running her district. She ran a Progressive campaign going door to door and validating people wants and letting them know that with the policies she supports, they could be realized.

Angeliina won her local race in Kansas. Specifically, she won a Trustee position on the Johnson County Community College board. This Progressive win in a Conservative area is not isolated. Working Families Party National Director Maurice Mitchell pointed out that their Progressive candidates have been winning throughout the country.

Local government, the one closest to the everyday lives of people, many times seems to be neglected by Progressives. We have paid the price for that.

Right-Wing zealots used the systematic control of local governments, school boards, etc. to catapult into controlling state government and beyond. Their governmental control is much greater than their real popular support. How do we know that? Polls make it absolutely clear that Americans want much more Progressive policies than those emanating from the majority Right-Wing politicians.
