Elie Mystal, editor of AboveTheLaw.com appeared on #AMJoy with an inconvenient truth about a large percentage of Americans on Obama & Trump. Is he right? What do you think?
Is Trump but a reflection of America?
“I think trying to rollback to the Obama campaign is a problem that both Booker and Buttigieg honestly are going to have,” Elie Mystal said. “because when you look at Obama, Saint Obama to me, what he represented was what this country could be. He was what we wanted to see ourselves as — eloquent and erudite and decent. And Trump shows us what we are — trash, mean, hateful, resentful. Trump shows us what we are. And I think that in this election what the Democrats want is somebody who is going to meet what we are head-on, with no fear, with no illusions and fight what we are. I think a lot of Democrats are sitting there going argh, and want to go for the jugular.”
For the most part, what Elie said is true. The concerns I had with the statement was that he did not accurately proportional “ized” his statement. Joy-Ann Reid hits the nail on the head.
“The thing is that Donald Trump has shown that cruelty can win, that “mean” can win,” Joy-Ann Reid said. “It does not mean a majority. … But people who think that putting a child in a cage and not giving them food and making them drink their soup off the floor if they spill it, the super-majority of Americans think that is vile. They think what this administration is doing vile and repugnant. Most Americans didn’t want torture. Most Americans think this stuff is horrible. But the problem is that we have minority rule.”
And that is the problem in a nutshell. The Constitution that too many revere and consider the perfect document is starting to show its age, flaws, and compromises designed to keep a few in power which in certain instances empowers evil.
