There are times you wish the host of the Sunday morning shows would not only ask questions but immediately correct the false narratives, lies, and misinformation by unscrupulous guests like any Trump spokesperson appearing. While George Stephanopoulos did the standard type of interview that allowed Trump’s spokesman Peter Navarro to get his complete message on national TV, Bernie Sanders counter-punch was timely and effective if not immediate.

The Republican playbook is generally effective and they’ve laid it out over the last few weeks. Peter Navarro was effective in articulating it completely as it stands today.

Trump and his cabal know the economy will slide into a depression. They know that the COVID-19 pandemic has created a new paradigm and that there will be a restructured economy. Whether it is done well will depend on how effective progressives are in using the pandemic to force Biden to start articulating an FDR-like message.

The Trump narrative is two-fold. The first involves going back to work. The second is to blame China.

Trump and his cabal with a soft assist from neo-liberals are willing to have non-essential workers return to the workforce before all safety concerns are met simply for short term economic gain with the expectation of influencing the 2020 election. As such they are coming up with a narrative that tries to convince Americans that staying home is just as or more deadly than going back to work prematurely.

Peter Navarro field-tested the ‘blame China for the COVID-19 pandemic and crashing the US economy‘ narrative in a Trump sycophant plausible message that likely connected to their base.

“The virus was spawned in Wuhan province,” Navarro said. “Patient zero was in November. The Chinese, behind the shield of the World Health Organization, for two months, hid the virus from the world, and then sent hundreds of thousands of Chinese on aircraft to Milan, New York, and around the world to seed that. They could have kept it in Wuhan. Instead, it became a pandemic.”

For those in the know, these narratives won’t work. The problem is that it could for the masses if not vigorously challenged and then followed by a robust believable solution to what our new economy must look like as we recover.
