Former Trump official Elizabeth Neumann discovers the troubling reality about the President and many associated with her Party. Trump should fear the spread of this awakening.
Is this former Trump official the beginning of the break in the dike?
All of America watched a white police officer murder an innocent black man before their own eyes. Somehow the slow death of George Floyd was more revealing than the shooting murder of Philando Castile or the fairly fast choking to death of Eric Garner or the countless other murders by police officers. Maybe it was that the surrounding cries for help, for mercy, for police to act like human-beings did it.
Americans saw a police officer show a complete disregard for George Floyd as human; hell, as less than a dog. I bet that officer treats pets better.
How many watching that video had to tell themselves that said evil did not live within themselves. It was a catalyst, temporary for some, permanent for others. After all, approval for Black Lives Matter zoomed up before losing some of its newly acquired luster, as the persistence of the protests demanding change continued. I guess there is just so much convenience some will give up for a clear conscience.
It does not matter. Two steps forward. One step backward. Two steps forward. One step backward. That adds up to forward progress.
Former Trump official Elizabeth Neumann gives us those two steps. She is a part of the Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform (REPAIR).
Neumann appeared on #AMJoy with guest host Zerlina Maxwell. There is a touching part of the discussion where she kind of, let go. It was clear that she had left her protective bubble, that shield that allows one to insulate themselves from the evil of their associations and a sort of abstraction from the ill-results of their doings, in her case, policies of our demon president.
“I listened to your previous segment about Ms. Cooper,” Neumann said. “What Ms. Cooper was saying, oh my goodness, that moved me into tears. She’s absolutely right and that’s the other reason I’m speaking out. My faith says that injustice deserves to be countered and for far too long the black community, the Jewish community has been attacked for many many reasons for millennia really. And I thought you know five years ago our country had moved past this. Clearly it has not and my views have changed a lot in the last five years because of what has happened. And I want to do whatever I can to help other people that used to have the views that have the views that I used to. Help them understand that we have to hear our brothers and sisters in the black community and what injustice they continue to face today. It is wrong. That is not what America is about. Nobody should have to walk through the street and feel unsafe. Nobody should feel unsafe going to their Synagogue or their Mosque or their Church. That is not who we are as a people. We can do better and that’s part of the reason I’m speaking out.”
Actually, Ms. Neumann, that is who many have always been. But as more come to the realization that we have been living in a system that has been unjust to most but catastrophically unjust, unfair, and inhumane to particular groupings, said acknowledgment can lead to change. And that is the likes of Donald Trump’s biggest fear because they lose the strings they use to puppeteer their agents of oppression.
It was clear Zerlina Maxwell was touched. Hell, I was touched. If Ms. Neumann’s change is persistent, we may reach the point where we cannot revert to form.
