This brawl on CNBC is an embarrassment for the network. It is time to consider Rick Santelli a clear and present danger to America. That blowup gives those who are predisposed to continue with the foolish objection to masks and distancing a plausible reason for their irresponsibility.

“You can’t tell me that shutting down,” Rick Santelli said. “Which is the easiest answer, is the only answer,”

“Rick, just as a public health and public service announcement for the audience, Andrew Ross Sorkin said. “The difference between a big box retailer, and a restaurant or frankly even a church, are so different it’s unbelievable.”

“I disagree, I disagree. I disagree,” Santelli said. “You can have your thoughts, and I can have mine”

“You’re required to wear a mask,” Sorkin said about big-box retailers. “It’s science. I’m sorry, it’s science.”

“It’s not science,” Santelli said in an irrational tone. “Five hundred people in a mall aren’t any safer than 150 people in a restaurant that holds 600. I don’t believe it. Sorry, I don’t believe it. And I live in an area where there are a lot of restaurants that have fought back and they don’t have any problems and they’re open.”

“Well you don’t have to believe it, but you’re doing a disservice to the viewer,” Sorkin replied.

After a back and forth between the two Sorkin just said.

“I’m sorry,” Sorkin said. “I would like to keep our viewers as healthy as humanly possible.”

Later, another host tried to talk some sense into Santelli point out the science and the numbers.

“How is that working out for you, Rick?” said Steve Liesman. “How is that working for you. Look at the numbers. The numbers show that just letting it rip has not worked all that well.”

That was to no avail as his irrationality just got worse.

In the end, the host, Melissa Lee, attempted to take back control. She said they would get nowhere. And she was right. It is impossible to get intelligent statements out of Rick Santelli.
