These White House reporters seem to live on a different earth. It is hard to believe this silly question to Jen Psaki did not embarrass her.
Jen Psaki has the perfect temperament for Fox News-like questions
One would think that the constancy of virtually slapping down the Fox News-like questions from Peter Doocy would be enough for any given press briefing. Evidently, that is not the case.
Jen Psaki did not get a twofer today. She did not even receive a three-for. Instead, today was a several-for. This question was likely more egregious than even Doocy’s question today. Why? Because she made the COVID pandemic a game.
“On COVID, you and Dr. Walinsky have used this phrase, ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated,’” the reporter said. “I am wondering if any part of that is the administration distancing itself from responsibility for the pandemic because you have been trying to get people vaccinated or if it is a scare tactic.”
Now, one would expect reporters at the White House level to be informed. Psaki would hope for that as well. Her response was perfect.
“I would say first, the data speaks for itself,” Psaki responded. “99% of people who are in hospitals because of COVID are unvaccinated. What is our responsibility to do is provide accurate public health information to the public. It is also our responsibility to stay at it and continue to communicate, fund programs, support trusted messengers, get out into local communities, to use what we see as creative partnerships to meet people where they are.”
Psaki pointed out that none of the plethoras of outreaching has stopped or declined. She said it is as simple as making all aware the vaccine is safe.
We need a new crop of White House reporters.
