I did a double-take as I listened to Ali Velshi interview Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley. You see, he was speaking in such a simple manner that grabbed one into a message that clearly touched every middle-class person interested in politics or agnostic to politics.

Velshi asked the mayor if his constituents understand all that the American Rescue Plan provided.

“Look. We know that we got the ability to keep police and fire,” the mayor said. “Our public service employees who are a member of our great AFSCME Union, working, providing police and fire services. But the Right-Wing Republicans in Columbus passed the biggest DEFUND THE POLICE and fire bill ever just a couple of weeks ago to defund radically the cities and townships and counties across the state. And so we’ve had to shore back up our police fire and public services.”

So the mayor made it clear that Democrats are the ones who saved police and fire employees throughout Ohio. He then pointed out that the American Rescue Plan was not an infrastructure bill. He knocked Trump for coming to Ohio and making promises he did not even try to keep. The bridge is still in a decadent state. He made it clear why the Democrats must succeed with their infrastructure bills. He is good at using the power of repetition to reinforce the Democratic message and to hit Republican’s constant derelictions.

“It’s Joe Biden who’s getting us out of expensive foreign wars and is proposing to spend money in Middle America on bridges like the Brent Spence Bridge and high-speed broadband internet and clean water initiatives replacing lead pipes,” the mayor said. “This is what America needs. This is what Ohio needs. And the Republicans in Ohio have DEFUNDED THE POLICE and fire, and I mean that literally. And they didn’t do anything to meaningfully get high-speed broadband internet during remote economy remote education. And thank God Joe Biden is trying to get that done for middle America because the Republicans in Congress haven’t helped. And, of course, Republicans who have run our state for almost 30 years have failed to lead on these critical infrastructure issues.”

The mayor further expanded the message to how the Democratic infrastructure bill also helps farmers and environmental quality. He discussed it in a way where all see the benefits.
