Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger appropriately slammed Trump & Pompeo for starting the entire Afghanistan fiasco.
Republican applies major Afghanistan blame on Trump/Pompeo
Congressman Adam Kinzinger did not mince his words. He blamed both the Trump administration and the Biden administration for the Afghanistan fiasco appropriately. But he specifically made it clear that the genesis was, in fact, Trump and Pompeo’s failed policies when they appeased the Taliban.
First, kudos to host Brianna Keilar for applying the proper context before her question.
“Members of your party,” said Brianna Keilar. “Some of whom you have mentioned there, President Trump, certainly others, Mike Pompeo, Nikki Haley, Mike Pence. They’ve criticized the Biden administration, despite contributing to this SIV (Special Immigrant Visa) backlog. What is your reaction to them rewriting history.”
“Let’s keep in mind,” Adam Kinzinger said. “Mike Pompeo met with the Taliban as Donald Trump was publicly saying we have to get out of Afghanistan at all cost. It is not worth it. Mike Pompeo meets with the Taliban and tries to negotiate something. And by the way, they end up getting rolled almost as bad as Neville Chamberlain because they knew what the desired outcome of the Trump administration was. So they set this up to fail. But always, of course, Joe Biden could have easily turned this around and instead used it as the excuse to get out. Both parties have failed the American people.”
The buck stops with President Joe Biden. But it is important to see both the forest and the trees. More importantly, one must put Afghanistan in the proper context. In a country built on experts creating false narratives that ultimately hurts most, we need to make sure that Afghanistan does not derail the progress in many other economic and social policy issues we must get done in the next few months. I feel for Afghanistan, but I wish the same concern for Afghans applied to the oppressed in America.
