Joe Biden has poll numbers that are falling. This is likely temporary and should be expected. Michael Moore’s take is apropos.
Michael Moore’s take on Joe Biden
Michael Moore, a Bernie supporter, gets it. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a few months ago, could not be clearer. She got it.
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised President Joe Biden and his administration Friday, sharing that she’s been impressed with Biden’s invitations to work and collaborate with progressive lawmakers.
“One thing that I will say is that I do think that the Biden administration and President Biden have exceeded expectations that progressives had,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a virtual town hall. “I’ll be frank, I think a lot of us expected a lot more conservative administration.”
Ocasio-Cortez, a vocal member of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, also said Biden’s willingness to collaborate with more progressive members “really impressed” her, and despite areas of disagreements, the administration’s conduct has been “not just in good faith but active incorporation of progressive legislation,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
“Biden announced that he plans to cut emissions by half by 2030,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that two years ago it was almost unthinkable to think that Joe Biden would be making an announcement like that.”
This part of his statement is prescient.
“I think what we’re going to see is how was it that he got all those people out without them being killed by the Taliban,” Moore said. “Without a single plane being shot down. How did he do that, and while he was doing it, increased the food stamps to all the poor of this country, cut child poverty in half? So many things happened during this last month because we’re consumed with Afghanistan, the fact that he eliminated college debt for all disabled Americans. So if you’re disabled, your college loans have been just forgiven during this time of chaos in Afghanistan. There are so many little things like that, and we don’t talk about them. But I think you know he should get the credit for this because he had the guts to say no. That’s the end of this. He had the guts to do it. Nobody else had the guts to do it. And he’s a badass in that way that he will just do what he thinks is right, and he will do what he thinks is the moral choice.”
Of course, it is the job of Progressives to keep pushing. We must let him know when his moral compass (read voting rights, etc.) needs adjusting.
