Kyrsten Sinema willfully naive Senate floor speech vs when she had common sense on GOP obstruction

Kyrsten Sinema went onto the Senate floor with a willfully naive speech filled with empty platitudes claiming she supports voting rights. She is unwilling to eliminate the undemocratic filibuster to pass a voting rights bill.

Kyrsten Sinema betrayed her constituents and America today. Sinema preempted President Biden’s visit to the Capitol with a speech that a wide-eyed fourth grader could have written. The platitudes in her remarks were nauseating.

Senator Chris Murphy called out both Sinema and Joe Manchin.

“My colleagues who say they want the filibuster to preserve the traditions of the Senate,” Murphy continued. “May, be cutting off their nose to their face because the Senate might not be around five years from now.”

Why would Sinema show disrespect to the President of her Party? Would it be difficult to delay her speech till after the President left? This woman is intent on embarrassing the President. Instead, though, she is embarrassing herself as a puppet to the plutocracy.

While Republicans are using their simple majorities in state Legislatures to invoke voter suppression, Sinema and Manchin want super-majorities to maintain voter rights and with that democracy. It is unforgivable.

In earlier days, when her common sense superseded her quest for donor-dollar-profiteering. Sinema then slammed Joe Liebermann as she supported reconciliation. She had no problem passing legislation with a simple 51 vote majority. She celebrated Republicans’ success passing bills even though they never had a filibuster-proof majority.

Sinema sold out the people that sent her to Congress. Worse, if they cannot fight through the Republican-inflicted voter suppression, she will have traded her willful naiveness to eliminate democracy itself.
