President Obama and a couple of pundits made it clear Democrats and Progressives have an excellent winning story to tell for the 2022 election.
President Obama gets it mostly right.
Al Roker asked President Obama about the economy and the 2022 Election. He had a lot to say.
“Inflation is a real issue.,” Obama said. “A lot of it is having to do with the COVID and supply chains. And now Putin’s gas tax essentially by virtue of his invasion of Ukraine. But the underlying economy, there’s a good story to tell. The Democrats have to go out there and tell the story, but ultimately the voters decide on this thing.”
Justi, Wolfers, Professor of Economics & Public Policy at the University of Michigan, said that while inflation is eating away at wage gains, people on the lower economic spectrum are doing better. Their wages are likely growing at a faster rate than inflation.
Stephanie Ruhle pointed out that a lot of the stimulus benefitted the rich. They were able to save more. They could stay home and get paid, while those living paycheck to paycheck had to go to work at all costs.
The Circus co-host Mark McKinnon pointed out a reality Democrats must stress.
“When you talk about the job market and the job situation,” McKinnon said. “The place where it really improved is for low economic workers. And the reality is that most of them now can find jobs. Most of them can find jobs that pay more than they were making before. In many cases, a lot more than what they were making before. … But I think we’re at a point where the jobs are scarce, the wages are rising, and I think the other factors are bound to kick in. … The fact is that there’s a great story to tell about jobs and wages.”
Democrats must tell the truthful good story. But they must also point out that Republicans and their benefactors are directly responsible for our economic failures, including inflation.
