I want to be very frank. I am very upset at our Democrats. Before rank & file, Democrats stop reading, DON’T.
I am as Progressive as one can get. I am a Democrat because, in a duopoly, that is the only place I can reside quasi-comfortably. I will be voting for every single Democrat I have the opportunity to vote for because the Republican politicians led by an ideology that kills and impoverishes are a clear and present danger to us all, Democrat, Independent, Republican, and otherwise.
At a minimum, the bottom 80% of Americans needed the scaled back Build Back Better (BBB) that finally came close to form. We cannot solely blame Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema for the failure. It was an orchestrated assault by the “Unbreakable Nine” in the House of Representatives that forced the decoupling of the infrastructure bill from the “social infrastructure” bill. Thankfully, many of those middle-class traitors are losing their primaries. But that is water under the bridge.
We must continue to live to fight another day. Fascism is a one-way valve that, once installed, we can only dislodge with a revolution nobody ever prepares for at any time. So again, I will hold my nose and vote for many that do not deserve my vote. Most importantly, I will work feverishly to elect them. Just as feverishly, I will work to get more progressives who put the middle-class first in 2024. You see, one cannot sit back in any election cycle. One must continue to engage, educate, encourage, and empower those we want to vote for our causes every day of every single week of every single month of every year.
And to Democratic and Progressive candidates. High-priced consultants and excessive television ads are a waste of your (our) money. Invest in local communities with flesh-to-flesh contact with the constituents and potential constituents. Invest in and support independent media that can message more directly. Those who would thwart your (our) message do not influence them.
We can decide to penalize Democrats because they did not fulfill all of the promises they had the power to achieve. We can also understand the political game and work to kick out those who obstruct now in 2024 and replace them with those who unabashedly support the middle class. I choose the latter. I understand that Democrats have the power to pass any legislation if ALL of them really want to do so. But that is not the case. We must methodically work to unelect appropriately. But it requires consistency and dedication, and the ability to move beyond our frustrations. Why? Those who do not have any interest in improving our lives have all the time in the world if they know we will eventually give up and leave the game. I won’t, nor should you.
