Indivisible Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin made it clear that a forceful engagement with extremist MAGA politicians and their appeasers presents the winning action.
Ezra Levin hits the nail on the head.
Too many Democrats and Progressives have been following the lead of Republican talking points that the so-called Liberal mainstream media have even adopted. It has been painful watching these Dems and Progressives alike almost acquiesce to defeat.
Fate does not want the good guys to go down as they keep giving them MAGA Republicans’ missteps. The most recent ones are the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade and mass shootings where it seemed that the good guy with a gun was unable to overtake the bad guy with a gun before too much carnage.
Indivisible’s Co-Executive Director was great at motivating Democrats and Progressives into action with his appearance on MSNBC Prime. Ezra pointed out that Mitch McConnell and his cabal will be no help in getting legislation passed.
“What we do know is that Mitch McConnell and the Republicans move when they perceive some amount of political threat,” Ezra Levin said. “When they think, ‘Oh if I don’t back down, I am going to suffer politically.’ And so what our job is in this moment, I’m not talking about Democratic senators. I’m not talking about the president. I’m talking about all of us, all of us watching this moment. Our job is to change the political calculus of those Republican senators. That means joining up with March for our Lives on June 11th on protests all across the country. And it means taking a cue from the folks in the Indivisible Houston that in his you found Ted Cruz in a restaurant said, hey, why are you against common-sense gun violence prevention laws? Get behind us in this. We need everybody. We’ve got a Democrat or Republican getting involved in this moment and changing what’s politically possible.
The host asked if it was possible to shame the shameless extremist Republicans.
“The point here isn’t to shame Ted Cruz,” Ezra said. “The point here is to make it very, very clear to everybody watching, not just folks watching us right now, but everybody at home watching who is not a partisan on this issue isn’t a Republican or a Democrat or independent. And if we take the fight to them, and this is on guns, this is on abortion. This is on contraception. This is on teachers. This is on schools. This is on our democracy. We are in the majority. They are in the minority. And if we take the fight to them, it makes it more difficult for them to prevent us from doing popular things.”
And that is the issue. Americans want what Democrats and Progressives are offering. The problem is that we are the poorest marketers of our ideas. They are much better at misrepresenting them than we are at articulating them in a manner where most Americans understand our policies are what they are asking for now.
