President Biden has a few tools he can use to mitigate the Supreme Court’s attack on women’s rights while in office. Democrats must “spine up” for the final solution.
Democrats must get serious
Most Progressives saw this coming. It was clear that Republicans, by all means necessary, make maximal use of the law and procedures to attain their ideological goals. And Democrats just let them do it.
The Powell Memo was the principal attack on America’s natural move to Progressive values as society became more enlightened to our system of antiseptic slavery, read purposefully flawed economic system. The powers could not allow true democracy as enlightened people would ask the pertinent question, “Why are those in power the ones who do the least?” Remember, when one says, ‘I let my money work for me,’ it means someone else works on your behalf. If your money and capital do all work, then one is starting to define a master/antiseptic-slave arrangement. But that is for the next installment. The point is that a paper with marching orders exists that the Right-Wing Conservatives and, to some extent, neoliberal Democrats like Joe Manchin follow. It’s there for all to see, yet we get surprised when foretold events occur.
After the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Republicans prevented President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee from ascending to the Supreme Court. This move was callous. Obama and Democrats should have been screaming about it ad nauseam. Instead, after a few comments, they just went on the business-as-usual modal. Obama should have recess appoint Garland. It would have created a firestorm in the same mode that Senator McConnell holding back Garland should have started. It would have been a move instigated by Republicans making an unprecedentedly undemocratic move.
Democrats did not take Donald Trump seriously. Moreover, some of their consultants often acted like they owned the Black, Asian, and Latino vote. Activists like
Michael Moore and others were begging the Clinton campaign to engage these different communities. These high-priced elitist consultants, as usual, got the spoils without fulfilling the deeds. Democrats should have financed embedded community organizations instead of those who do not understand the people they claim to serve. But that is water under the bridge.
Unfortunately, to some extent, many of us are seeing the same modus operandi. Democrats in Texas gave Republicans a metastasizing talking point about South Texas Latinos moving to the Republican Party by losing district CD-34, if only temporarily. The Republican propaganda machine is running with it. And sometimes propaganda changes minds via peer pressure.
The Supreme Court has done what we knew it would do. Roe v. Wade is now history. Effective immediately, women no longer have a right to an abortion. The patriarch has regained control of their bodies.
Democrats asked people to put them in power to solve our problems. And most are writing policies that do just that. Unfortunately, we coddle several neoliberals whose intent is more a status quo than what is best for the poor and middle-class. Americans are not seeing bold, courageous moves from Democrats as they are from Republicans. Republicans tell their constituents what to think. After they brainwashed them, they made their dreams come true. Democrats have to do the latter. More importantly, they need to either penalize if possible or inform their constituents to ask their members for an if-then-else matching move.
What does all the above mean? As
Elie Mystal points out, there are things we can do immediately, like using Federal spaces in the Red States enslaving women to dispense the abortion pill by executive order. But more importantly, Democrats must kill the filibuster. And secondly, they must rebalance the Supreme Court. Why? Because even if a Democratic Congress codifies abortion into law, our fraudulently attained Supreme Court will declare the law unconstitutional.
Two presidents who initially did not win the popular vote appointed four of the five Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. And one of them occupies the seat stolen from President Obama’s appointment. Democrats must learn to be just as if not more cunning than Democrats. After all, they have moral, ethical, and democratic positions.
