Unlike most journalists, Ali Velshi understands the reign of terror the new SCOTUS intends to inflict on the USA on behalf of the corporatocracy. He was more profound than most journalists as he enumerated the actions of this rogue Supreme Court.

“It’s actually the first time the Supreme Court has ever taken away a right rather than expanding one,” said Ali Velshi. “And for those of us who associate positive rights with democracy, the erosion of rights has been underway for years, even without the help of the highest court in the land.”
Velshi points out that Americans were given the semblance of progress with the advent of gay marriage and a few other policies win.
“ Look more closely, and you’ll realize that personal rights are being steadily chipped away,” Velshi said. “Voting rights, LGBTQ rights. Rights around education, health care, elections, you name it. What the Supreme Court of the United States has done has simply been to extend America’s recent streak of erasing rights that are inherent to democracy, overturning Roe v Wade, and leaving abortion laws up to the states making America an outlier among developed countries.”
Velshi points out that some of the most authoritarian regimes have more women-friendly laws for abortion than the United States of America. But worse, he made it clear that the next session would be worse for our democracy on many other fronts.
“This Supreme Court’s sessions reign of terror came to an end this week after a string of decisions that will leave this country battered and bruised for years to come,” Ali Velshi said. “But this far-right super majority will be back next session and the session after that and the session after that. As long as this lopsided court rules unchecked by the other branches of government, it will continue to tear down rights and privileges rather than build them up. And it will do so with impunity. … There is no land of the free when freedoms are extinguished.”
A while back I wrote the article titled “Republicans are setting up the courts for minority rule even in a more progressive country.” I pointed out the following then.
We should not believe that the take over of the courts by one party is a Trump thing. He is neither analytical nor intelligent. We should stop concentrating on the clown show by Republicans who try to get our attention every day. The GOP is not only destroying the middle-class economically as the clowns distract us. They intend to change the legislative fabric to disempower the masses. The neutering of the middle-class is not a new thing. It has been orchestrated for some time now.
Republicans are using the Constitution to accomplish the above feat. It is about using that document to prevent the change in the country that will no longer tolerate bias against the masses. Any law they do not want will be deemed unconstitutional. Those chosen by the plutocracy to be their wards, the ones who will protect them at all cost, are fighting to keep their “good fortune,” read the same people against Medicare for All and other programs that will uplift the poor and middle-classes.
Ali Velshi gets it. One hopes enough Americans do as well and elect progressive politicians willing to take the bold steps necessary to restore our democracy.
