The Right-Wing narrative is to flood the zone with dozens of issues to prevent discussing real issues that we support and want.
Please don’t allow them to change the narrative
My Progressive program Politics Done Right gets a substantial number of Right-Wing viewers. We have civil discussions and debates.
Recently, I have noticed a method that many on the Right are using on my program and others. They stay off-topic and try to fill the space with issues to prevent Progressives from addressing their bread and butter issues.
There is a particular commenter that brings up Hunter Biden all of the time. I reminded him that while Ivanka Trump was in the Trump administration, Hunter Biden was not, and as such, I won’t entertain the Hunter narrative.
Recently, another Right-Wing commenter has been using an issue of judges releasing prisoners on low or no bail who then commit murder. He wanted me to address the issue in detail. The idea was to take up all the program time on his bond issue. Of course, that would limit my time on the actual bread and butter Progressive issues I needed to cover.
So what did I do? I flipped the narrative on him. He has data that shows 170 murders by men released from jail on bond. I explained that I was very sorry for the murdered and their families.
But then I put him on the defensive. I pointed out that the Texas Republicans State Legislature in Austin refuses to accept the Medicaid Expansion to the Affordable Care Act. That evil act has killed tens of thousands over the last several years. Why does it not bother him even more?
Progressives must be ready to turn every Right-Wing talking point into a liability. When they bring up the crime, blame them for arming most of the perpetrators with impunity. When they talk about inflation, blame them for refusing to support a Windfall Profit tax to return the Americans’ extorted money. When they bring up COVID, remind them that the GOP refused to pass the bill. Be ready to answer every attack with a quick defense, a counterattack, and then go on the offensive.
