My listener can afford his $880 glasses. But too often, some 80% of Americans could not. Who speaks for them?

$880 glasses is a healthcare disaster.

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

One of Politics Done Right’s most prolific commenters and researchers went silent this week. One day he posted the following.

“Busted my eyeglasses … new ones are $880 … insurance doesn’t cover … have had worse days 👓”

The next day he posted the following.

“Listening in … no commentary this week … new glasses on Monday, I hope 👓”

Did $880 sound a bit expensive for a couple of pieces of glass surrounded by a plastic frame? This particular listener can afford his glasses. The thugs who charge $880 for something that likely costs less than $10 are no more benevolent than a pickpocket.

The listener said he could not comment this week because he cannot get into a comfortable position where he is able to write. I then remembered a recent study that said 56% of Americans would struggle to cover an unexpected $1000 bill.

That we have a healthcare system that mostly serves those who can afford to pay is immoral. Think about those who simply do not have the resources for their glasses specifically or healthcare in general. They are relegated to the consequences of a system that meets their needs. It affects their economic prospects, their health, and much more.
