“Pro-lifers” should heed Jaime Rodriguez’s warning
Jaime Rodriguez recently moderated a candidates’ forum where he took some time to discuss the abortion topic that seemed to have turned the Midterm 2022 election.
“I know that the talking points say this is a women’s issue,” Rodriguez said. “This is not just a women’s issue.”
He went on to say that while the abortion debate is about a woman’s right to choose, the amendments it is based on are far-reaching. While the Bill of Rights or the Constitution proper does not explicitly have privacy defined as a right, the third, fourth, and fifth infer it. Moreover, the ninth amendment clarified that a right does not have to be written into the constitution to be a retained right.
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Jaime made a chilling observation that “pro-lifers” ignore at their peril.
“They don’t realize that the people that are helping them in the courts for their issue,” Jaime Rodriguez said. “Are actually creating the argument that could actually in the future work against them. Which is again, that if the government has the right to choose for you that you can’t have an abortion, that same government can also choose to force you to have an abortion.”
Ironically, those who claim to want government out of their lives are actually laying the foundation to take more and more rights away. Sometimes one has to be careful about what they ask for as they may get it all to our detriment.
