It is a fact that the crime rate in the Red States is much higher than in the Blue States. Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner is unapologetic in pointing that out to his detractors.
Larry Krasner nails it!
Republicans want to run on the crime issue right into the 2024 election. Democrats have been a bit timid in confronting the issue both locally and nationally. I watched Texas politicians stay away from the subject in a forceful manner even though all the laws in the state are written by a Republican Legislature. They created the laws on bail, and they flooded our streets with guns. How is the issue not made for Democrats to win?
The current Pennsylvania Republican House impeached Philadelphia, PA, district attorney Larry Krasner essentially for the rise in crime in Philadelphia. That House will be Democratic next year. The Republican state Senate said they would begin a trial in January. Of course, they will not have the votes to convict.
If one were to judge politicians by the crime rates in their jurisdictions, a lot of Republicans would be impeached if we were to follow Pennsylvania orthodoxy. Larry intends to keep his head up high. He is fighting back
Larry Krasner would have none of it. In a recent interview with Mehdi Hasan on MNSBC, he said the following.
“It is a fact that the red states have a 40% higher rate of homicides,” Larry Krasner said. “Republicans are terrible at crime. They’re absolutely terrible. They always have been. And Democrats need to answer it directly because we have all the answers.”
Recently California Governor Gavin Newsom came out with a strong attack on the crime message.
“How do Democrats not know that?” Newsom asked. “In fact, it really is nine out of ten because Georgia went for Biden. But it is really a red state. Eight out of ten, and we are losing that message? Crime is higher, as well as taxes, when you look at the average of the citizens of Texas. It’s higher. Crime is higher, violent crime; property crime than in the state of California. Sixty-seven percent higher gun death rate in Texas. Why don’t we push back?
Congresspersons Eric Swalwell and Ilhan Omar created a stinging ad that pointed out the crime realities as well.
I agree with James Carville. Democrats need to lean into the crime issue. After all, Republicans are terrible on the issue, and the crime rates in the Red States prove it.
