Mike Barnacle made a prescient statement recently on #MorningJoe. “We are talking about cruelty versus incompetence,” Mike Barnacle said. “The Republican proven cruelty and the president’s proven competence.”
Cruelty is the medicine the Republican leadership offers.
While listening to Morning Joe on MSNBC, Mike Barnacle made some prescient statements this morning. They correlate perfectly with Common Dreams’ journalist Jim Naureckas’ article referencing Washington Post’s Akilah Johnson’s piece titled “Can politics kill you? Research says the answer increasingly is yes.” I covered the Washington Post article in my Substack newsletter.
The panel was discussing President Biden’s success in contrast with what Republicans do.
“In addition to holding together a coalition fighting Russia in Ukraine. Those are two incredible accomplishments by the president of the United States,” Mike Barnacle said. “And figure out this thing. On the other side of the aisle, we just referred to it. One of the potentially leading Republican candidates, perhaps for president of the United States, the existing governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who once presided over true incompetence in Texas and allowed the power grid to fail during the course of a very cold winter a few years ago; his idea of achievement is to bus people to Washington DC in freezing weather and risk their lives. Standing outside the vice president’s home, the vice presidential mansion on Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, DC; that’s what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about cruelty versus competence and the Republican-proven cruelty. And the president’s proven competence.”
Barnacle nails it. And that is the contrast we must cauterize in the minds of every American. We cannot allow false equivalences. In these times, there is a Party that stands for actual human values and another that celebrates cruelty.
