House Oversight Chairman Republican James Comer appeared on CNN’s State of the Union. Republicans are so accustomed to appearing on these Sunday programs assuming that they will get softball questions while giving them a platform to promote their misinformation, disinformation, and lies, that they are utterly unprepared to defend their preposterous claims.

The justified comfort caught the chairman a bit off guard today. While he is good at non-answers, he allowed Tapper to correct the Republican lies in real-time.

Jake Tapper contrasted the differences perfectly.

Tapper then played James Romer’s words against him. Romer claimed ignorance, then, about Trump’s classified documents. But when the reporter asked him if he would make the Trump classified documents a priority, his answer was, “That would not be a priority.”

“So what are you saying to viewers who don’t understand why President Biden’s documents seem like a big priority for you,” Tapper asked. “When President Trump, who took hundreds more documents, did not comply with the subpoena, did not reach out to the National Archives or the Justice Department saying ‘Hey we’ve got these documents,’ is not a priority. Do you only care about classified documents being mishandled when Democrats do the mishandling?”

It was clear Romer did not have an answer and devolved into hypotheticals. Then he got around to his real aim which is the muddy the waters by claiming the handling of the classified document cases were different between Biden and Trump.

Tapper hammered him for not seeing that the cases were completely different. This was good journalism for a change on a Sunday morning news program.
