Houston Mayoral Candidate Amanda Edwards. Republicans will cut your Social Security if allowed

We need generational leadership change around the country. Houston, Texas, will have that option this year with former Amanda Edwards. Republicans continue to balk at President Biden calling them out.

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Houston Mayoral Candidate Amanda Edwards.

Houston is a vibrant city in Texas. It is 4th most populous city in the county. Houston occupies most of Harris County, a bellwether country that mimics the United States of America. It is diverse, international, hometown-like, and cosmopolitan all at the same time. That vibrancy can only continue with new leadership, with generational change. The next mayor of Houston must bring that. For all who want to see progress, you will have choices this election. There will be a choice for the good old boy cigar smoking network or for generational change for a better direction for the city. This is not just a Houston issue but a national one.

And in that light, Politics Done Right is chatting with former at-large city councilwoman Amanda Edwards. Amanda graduated from Eisenhower High School in Aldine ISD. She earned a B.A. in Political Science from Emory University in 2004. Amanda went on to earn her J.D. from Harvard Law School. Amanda returned to Houston with a broadened perspective and interest in impacting her community. Amanda practiced law for years as a municipal finance lawyer, where she solved complex issues relating to tax-exempt bond financings, public-private partnerships, and non-profit organizations. She has practiced law at both Vinson & Elkins LLP and Bracewell LLP.

Ms. Edwards will discuss what she intends to bring to Houston, Texas. How does she envision the future of cities that serves all? How do you bring equity and fairness to governments generally owned by the wealthy and powerful? How does she bring agency to all in a system that too often forgets the less affluent?

Republicans will cut your Social Security if allowed.

President Joe Biden was masterful in how he suckered Republicans into supporting no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

resident Biden called out Republicans for what they said they intended to do.

“Some of my Republican friends want to take the economy hostage — I get it — unless I agree to their economic plans,” President Biden said. “All of you at home should know what those plans are. Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans, want Medicare and Social Security to sunset. I’m not saying it’s the majority.”

Republicans started shouting for being truthfully called out. Biden was ready.

“Let me give you — anybody who doubts it, contact my office,” Biden replied, knowing he had the goods. “I’ll give you a copy — I’ll give you a copy of the proposal. That means Congress doesn’t vote. You know, it means if Congress doesn’t keep the programs the way they are, they go away.”

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) was looking at the president in an incredulous fashion. His lying & hypocrisy is astounding. Especially since we have him on video talking about killing Social Security.

“It will be my objective to phase out Social Security, to pull it up by the roots and get rid of it,” Lee said at a campaign event, “There’s going to be growing pains associated with doing this. We can’t do it all at once.”

And then there is Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), who headed a company convicted of ripping off Medicare several years ago. I had to do a double-take as I watched Fox News. John Roberts had a newsworthy interview with middle-class-tax-hiking Florida Senator Rick Scott. The most critical point of the discussion came when Roberts challenged Scott for lying about his 11-point tax-hike plan.

“You recently put out an 11-point plan to rescue America,” said John Roberts. “Two of the big points of which are, quote, All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently, over half of Americans pay no income tax. It also says all federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. So that would raise taxes on half of Americans and potentially sunset programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Why would you propose something like that in an election year?”

That was a powerful question coming from a Fox News host. More importantly, he identified that Republicans typically lie to the American people by not putting out their true beliefs and desired policies during elections. After all, Americans may notice the Republicans do not have their interests at hand.

Rick Scott attempted to lie to the audience by claiming that Roberts was putting out a Democratic talking point. Roberts would have none of it.

“But Senator Scott,” Roberts shot back. “It’s not a Democratic talking point. It’s in the plan.”

Rick Scott immediately went into bloviating mode. He claimed everyone should pay income taxes, even if a dollar. He implied that people not paying federal income taxes are ripping off those who pay. The man is simply living in another world.

The level of hypocrisy of these guys is astounding but must be called out all of the time. Their constituents are more dependent on government programs than any. We must let those constituents know the people they voted for are hurting them financially, morally, and socially.
