Katy Tur shows humaneness by telling the inconvenient truth. We failed & we need immigrants.

Once again, Katy Tur bucks the prevailing narrative as she centralized on the humane side of the immigration issue as opposed to the political fraud.

Katy Tur nails the immigration narrative.

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Katy Tur pointed out that the immigration issue is too often featured as a spectacle. If there is any doubt, simply watch the coverage. They talk about the swarm of people coming from down south. But no analysis is given about why.

Katie began the segment with the most cogent and empathetic statement that rarely comes through in the coverage.

“Something that’s not expressed in this coverage a lot is that if you put yourself in the situation that they’re in if you did, if I did, we would be doing the exact same thing for our families,” Katy Tur said. “And so much of that humanity, people just try to make a life for themselves, get lost.”

Katy then went from the humaneness narrative to the economic narrative.

“And when you talk to economists in this country — and this is why this can be such a frustrating issue to cover it as just a political spectacle — economists say we need a bigger tax base,” Tur said. “We need more people here contributing, paying taxes so that we can pay social security going forward in the future because our birth rate is down. There are reasons to let more people in.”

This segment covered this migration issue from the point of view that these people are escaping violence, poverty, and the lack of freedom. The one context I wish was made more clear is that it is no different than the pilgrims and others coming to North America in the 1600s for a better life. There is one distinction. The early settlers came to conquer and rid the land of those not like them. Those coming today just want a job and a better life without inflicting damage on those already here. Additionally, many of the policies that are enabled by our government but instigated by our corporations create the conditions to impoverish these countries. It is beyond the scope of this post to discuss that, but I will cover that in a subsequent post.
