Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s response to a question raised by Kristen Welker during an interview was telling. Welker pointed out that former President Ronald Reagan’s use of armed shipments to influence Israel’s policy is no different than what President Biden’s decision to restrict weapons delivery to Israel is doing. Graham’s response revealed a disturbing perspective on the value of human life and a hypocritical stance on war and abortion.

Graham’s rant began with a defense of Israel’s use of weapons against Hamas, emphasizing that nobody in Israel would allow Hamas to stand militarily or politically. He argues that President Biden’s decision to restrict weapons delivery to Israel is the worst in the history of the US-Israel relationship, as it emboldens Iran and Hamas. Graham suggests that denying weapons to Israel during a time of potential destruction is a non-negotiable position.

Of course, that is a silly argument, given that the American taxpayers are paying for the weapons Israel is using. As such, they can decide that they do not want to be complicit in the murder of innocent civilians.

The alarming aspect of Graham’s response is that he did not question why it was acceptable for Reagan to withhold weapons but not for Biden to restrict their delivery. Graham even went so far as to defend the United States’ use of nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the threat of war. He argues that it was justified for Israel to do whatever it took to survive as a Jewish state.

This line of argument exposes Graham’s inconsistent and hypocritical stance on the sanctity of life. On the one hand, he vehemently opposes a woman’s right to choose and considers it murder, but on the other hand, he supports the use of bombs that indirectly result in the deaths of innocent men, women, and children. Graham’s lack of value for human life is evident in his dismissive and derogatory remarks toward those who disagree with him.

Graham’s claim that those who oppose his views are “full of crap” shows his disregard for humanity. It only serves to highlight his lack of empathy and compassion. He fails to acknowledge the devastating consequences of war and the importance of finding peaceful resolutions. By dismissing opposing viewpoints as invalid, Graham demonstrates a dangerous disregard for the diverse perspectives of a democratic society.

Furthermore, Graham’s argument that Hamas is hiding behind innocent civilians disregards the principles of proportionality and the protection of non-combatants in armed conflicts. He conveniently ignores the fact that indiscriminate attacks on civilian populations are considered war crimes.

If a dozen thugs hide behind a couple hundred shoppers in Walmart, would Americans support a police force who guns down and blows up those people to get the twelve thugs? We are sure that the humanity in most Americans would not support such an inhumane and irresponsible act.

Overall, Graham’s unhinged, warmongering rant exposes his hypocritical stance on war, abortion, and the value of human life. His dismissal of Reagan’s actions and his dismissal of opposing viewpoints highlight a lack of empathy and a dangerous willingness to justify actions that result in the loss of innocent lives. America can do better than to be led by individuals who prioritize war over diplomacy and disregard the sanctity of life.
