Congressman Ted Poe Complete Disregard To What Ails America

December 18, 2011 By Egberto Willies

*

imageTed Poe is my Congressman, Texas 2nd District. Ted Poe saturates our local newspapers with talking points that are comprised of mostly half-truths and misinformation. I have been on many of his town hall calls and inasmuch as I hit the telephone keyboard to speak; I am never given an opportunity. Every call seems to be saturated with people who simply sing praises to him. I am sure these are all plants based on the canned statements they make.

Today I received this email from Ted Poe that claims most of his constituents most ask about “Costly, Unnecessary Regulations”, “Complicated Tax Structure”, “Free Trade Agreements”, and the “Keystone XL Pipeline”. That has to be a categorical lie as I am all over Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, and the surrounding communities in his district and very few people are directly affected or even know about those four subjects. It is evident that Ted Poe is conducting a form of subliminal messaging to make his constituency believe that these are topics that most affect their daily lives.

The reality is people are financially stressed. Many are losing their homes or the value of their homes is unpredictable. Many are looking for jobs or better paying jobs that keep them in the middle class. Yet Ted Poe can only bring up only subjects of value to large corporations and that will ultimately have a negative effect on their financial well-being.

This correspondence is not only immoral; it is an undermining of Ted Poe’s constituencies’ intelligence. The great thing is that the 2nd District of Texas is waking up. We had a peaceful and informative OCCUPY in Kingwood, TX on Friday and Saturday. Inasmuch as this community tends to be very conservative, the reception was much more positive than negative. Six months ago people would have been shouting the participants down or giving obscene gestures.
