Saving Cash

Guest post from: Kent Lara I went to texaselectricityproviders.com/ when I moved in here because I’m all about saving money. My husband thinks I’m crazy because I spend hours every weekend clipping coupons and organizing them in my giant coupon notebook but hey, I think that’s the way you really save big time! He won’t be complaining when we’re able to use the money I saved to go on a vacation this year, that’s the truth, and I know that as much as he pokes fun he really does appreciate all the things I do around the house to save us money. It’s hard not to be really into it when you’re a stay at home mom and you’re not bringing in any money anymore – sometimes I feel like I’m more of a drain on us than anything else so it’s nice to know he thinks I’m really pulling my weightwhen it comes to the money side of things. I don’t worry about cash but I don’t have to anymore, that’s the honest to goodness … [Read more...]

American people won’t get fair shot until we have government by & for all — not bought & paid for by corporations

image.png

It's no wonder Americans are losing faith in our political system.. Citizens United lets big corporations spend unlimited amounts of money -- in secret and without accountability -- so politicians answer to them instead of voters. We've lost our way when corporations are people, money is free speech, and politicians are for sale to the highest bidder. We've already seen the outcome: big corporations get massive taxpayer handouts, gut safety regulations, and take away the rights of workers -- while sticking American families with the bill. The American people won't catch a break until we have a government by and for all of us -- not bought and paid for by Wall Street, Big Oil, and corporate lobbyists. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW In modern elections, nine out of 10 congressional races are won by the candidate who raises the most campaign cash. Citizens United eliminated the restrictions on corporations from directly spending unlimited amounts in our elections -- and now they get to do it in secret and … [Read more...]

Occupy Kingwood – A Sustainable Form Of The Occupy Movement (2012-01-28)

P1050343.jpg

We are now at six weeks and Occupy Kingwood is still going strong. We will continue to do this weekly to keep awareness on the issues affecting middle class Americans. We want our community to be aware that we understand the plight of most of them as they keep their real concerns about our economy and the future of our country and families in a numb silence. This week our numbers were small as their were many ancillary events taking place. But as long as there is one person willing to stand and keep the community engaged, we will be out there. Sharing donuts and coffee on a snippy cool and sunny morning was fun. One can actually have fun as they perform their civic duty. So come on and join us. We will be there next week to talk to, greet, meet, inform, and just have fun with you. Every week we get new folks coming out.   My Book: As I See It: Class Warfare The Only Resort To Right Wing Doom Hardcopy: http://amzn.to/dt72c7 Kindle: … [Read more...]

A Discussion On Climate Change with Texas A&M Climate Scientist Dr. Andrew Dessler

Dr.-Andrew-Dessler.jpg

On Saturday January 29th, 2012 Dr. Andrew Dessler, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University was invited to speak about climate change to the community. He was well received and was very informing. There were two sessions. The first session discussed the science of climate change. Find out what drives climate changes and atmospheric conditions with a degree in meteorology. The second session was concentrated more on policies and solutions. One can only hope that more educational sessions like these are held to ensure our citizens are informed with valid information as opposed to corporate spin that negatively affects us all. The event was suggested by Dr. Ron Spross. The lay leadership of the church got behind it and made it happen. Presbyterian churches like Atascocita Presbyterian are run by a group of ordained lay leaders called elders.  They refer to this governing group as the "Session". They were very supportive of this event, its controversial nature notwithstanding.  Kingwood … [Read more...]

2012 Electoral Predictions Made 07/02/2011 – What Do You Think

image.png

This is a prediction and bet Evan Carroll & I discussed at Starbucks. It's public now buddy. Let's see who comes closer. In the mean time we must not allow the Right to conflate unfettered Capitalism with Free Enterprise. Unfettered Capitalism is killing innovation, the middle class, and the individual from succeeding. Mitt Romney is the poster boy for the outcomes of unfettered Capitalism. He makes all the gains from packaging and selling companies. Whether they gain employees or lose employees, he profits. I go through this type of stuff in an easy to read format in my book http://amzn.to/dt72c7. We need the electorate to not fall for the trick coming from the pilferers of the middle class that will have them vote against their own interest. Many Liberals, Independents, Disaffected Republicans, and others are apathetic. My statement to you is to grow up and fight. Our plutocracy will not shrink from one’s silence or refusal to engage. We must accept that this misbehaving government that has g … [Read more...]

With Keystone, Big Oil gets the profits, foreign countries get the oil, and Americans get all the risks

image.png

If we're going to risk building a pipeline through America, it better benefit Americans. With Keystone, Big Oil gets the profits, foreign countries get the oil, and Americans get all the risks. A pipeline built through America to sell foreign oil to foreign countries risks disaster for American farmers and ranchers -- just so Big Oil can make billions. Keystone is about protecting the profits of Big Oil campaign donors and hurting the President politically -- not about America's best interests. We'd get all the risks and not even get the oil. We should never mistake the interests of Big Oil for the interests of the American people or our economy.  "IT IS FALSE THAT: Keystone could create 20,000 jobs." Of course that's what Big Oil claims, but the only independent study of Keystone found that those industry numbers are wildly exaggerated. Actually, the pipeline could kill more jobs than it creates. It would raise gas prices in the Midwest, laying off thousands in trucking and … [Read more...]

Fight Inflammation Naturally

image.png

I work out more than five times a week. At fifty years old while I am working out I feel fine. Afterwards the inflammation in the joints set in.I take a lot of vitamins but I refuse to be stuck with taking prescription drugs or off the shelf non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Then there was Nopalea, a supplement that helps ones body neutralize its inner toxins and reduce inflammation. Nopalea (No-pah lay’uh) is a tasty wellness drink sourced from the fruit of the Nopal cactus (Opuntia Ficus Indica). It has rare antioxidants (Betalains) that have been scientifically proven to help the body. We all know that inflammation is the leading cause of pain. As such, any substance that substantially reduces inflammation generally reduces pain. More than three million bottles of this anti-inflammatory wellness drink by this 12-year old company that helps people pursue physical, emotional and spiritual health have been sold. Their mission is to help people everywhere achieve greater wellness and create wealth for t … [Read more...]

Billionaire Bill Gates Calls For Increasing Taxes On The Rich: ‘That’s Just Justice’ | ThinkProgress

image.png

Last night in his State of the Union address, President Obama once again urged Congress to pass the Buffett rule, noting that 25 percent of American millionaires pay less in taxes that millions of families in the middle-class. Republicans were quick to dismiss his request as “the politics of envy and division.” However, multi-billionaire Bill Gates called his policy something else entirely: “That’s just justice.” In an interview with the BBC, Gates noted “taxes are going to have to go up” and thus he’d prefer that they “go up more on the rich than everyone else.” There needs to be “a sense of shared sacrifice,” he said, adding, “right now, I don’t feel like people like myself are paying as much as we should”: GATES: Well the United States has a huge budget deficit, so taxes are going to have to go up. And I certainly agree that they should go up more on the rich than everyone else. That’s just justice. BBC HOST: Is that a message you think that works with other people as wealth … [Read more...]
