Bill Maher did his research to disprove Ted Cruz rock music statement
The day after Ted Cruz announced his run for president, he appeared on CBS. He was asked what kind of music he listened to. His answer was rather pandering. He responded with the following.
“I grew up listening to classic rock, and I’ll tell you sort of an odd story. My music taste changed on 9/11. I actually intellectually find this very curious, but on 9/11, I didn’t like how rock music responded. And country music, collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me. … I had an emotional reaction that said, ‘these are my people.’ So ever since 2001 I listen to country music.”
Earlier in the week Jon Stewart took the hypocrisy of Ted Cruz’s ‘imagine Ted Cruz as president speech‘ to task. Bill Maher took Ted Cruz to task on his Real Time show. After stating that very few actually believed Cruz’s statement and that the story tells quite a bit of his disingenuous nature, Bill Maher came out with the research one would have expected the traditional mainstream media to do.
“So I looked up how rock responded,” Bill Maher said. “With three giant fund raisers. September 24th, all four networks showed ‘America, a tribute to heroes’ Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Tom Petty, Paul Young, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, a virtual roster of classic rock.”
Bill Maher continued. “October 20th, Paul McCartney’s concert for New York. The Who, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Elton Jon, Eric Clapton. The next day Michael Jackson had the few rock classic people left. Aerosmith, Rod Stewart. Paul McCartney wrote a song called Freedom, Bruce Springsteen, The Rising, Bon Jovi, Undivided, Neil Young Let’s Roll. How much more could they?”
Ex-congressman Barney Frank then asked, “Were they praying?” S.E. Cupp then chimed in. “Did they mention lift kits, trailer hitches, beers, and getting drunk on a plane? I don’t think so. Case closed”
Actor Zachary Quinto had the serious answer. “It shows the willingness on the part of Ted Cruz I think to say whatever it is that people want to hear. It’s a real problem. His ability to deny certain aspects of things that are scientifically proven through the course of certainly climate change and global warming and many other topics. It’s just somebody that is willing to pander to the people he knows he has to get because they are really his only hope.”
Zachary Quinto was likely referring to Ted Cruz’s stint on the Seth Meyer’s show where he lied about a climate change report. Many wonder why energy is expended on blogging and fact checking Ted Cruz. The answer is simple. While Ted Cruz panders to the dumb and the misinformed he is very intelligent. His goal is to secure the vote of the low information sector. Once secured they are likely to stay with him. That accomplished, his next move would be to come up with disingenuous but plausible alternatives to win given the likely stale retreads on both the Democratic and Republican sides. Can that work? Of course it can. That gave us Ronald Reagan and George W Bush. The difference this time is that Ted Cruz is in fact intelligent.
