Bernie Sanders now leads in Iowa
Bernie Sanders continues to show that his campaign is real. Many in the Democratic orthodoxy continue to disregard him. They believe that mentioning him as little as possible will make him as a threat go away. That is proving to be a big mistake.
Bernie Sanders has taken the lead in Iowa. He has a very slim one point lead over Hillary Clinton 41/40%. But he was recently down by more than 10 points. The trajectory is clear. Bernie’s numbers are on the rise and Hillary’s are falling. It is still early and that knife can cut either way.
Bernie is accomplishing this feet even as he has yet to get traction in minority communities and other more democratic constituencies. The reality is as he makes inroads based on his platform of social justice and economic empowerment, that is likely to change. The reality is that Hillary Clinton is not going to march into the White House as many Democrats hoped for. She shouldn’t. She must not. The DLC’s reign must be over.
This election season is different than many. As Republicans seek a different candidate, a candidate that seem to empower one people, Democrats may be doing the exact opposite, a candidate threading that which connects us all.
