The GOP & its puppeteers policies are anti average American mostly because their entrenched philosophy promotes a top down distribution of wealth and power. It can only work if it convinces Americans of two things, 1) that the government of the people and by the people is bad and evil and as such will not create good policies, and 2) the average American will be able to climb the ladder to great wealth which the bad government will try to take away. It is for this reason that many American are willing to vote against their own interest with the expectation that they ultimately will be in the class that is currently the real beneficiaries the current policies.
