Yesterday evening, Politifact called out Perry for his comment that the $18 billion budget gap was pulled from the air. They deemed his comment FALSE and outlined exactly how that number was determined.
This is just another instance where Perry tried to ignore the facts so that he could spin his record of failure. Texas needs a governor who lives is in a fact-based reality and who’s looking ahead to our state’s economic future
Rick Perry also said last Thursday that assessing the economy in order to address the budget crisis now would be "an effort of futility" and that he would be waiting until May of 2011 before addressing the shortfall.
Attached below are some of the other comments Perry has made where he tried to spin his record and stretch the truth.
- Perry said that his "border security efforts have led to a 60 percent decrease in border crime." Politifact says the Claim omits El Paso, Laredo, Brownsville and other burgs where most people live
- Perry said "We have billions in surplus." Politifact says the claim is barely true because there is a Budget shortfall on the horizon
- Perry said “We cut property taxes by one-third.” Politifact disagreed, arguing that the Tax burden didn’t lighten
- Perry said approximately 70 percent of jobs created in the United States in November 2007-2008 were in Texas. Politifact disagreed calling his claim false, and said it’s Only true by overlooking most of United States
