Shirley Sherrod Had To Be Fired – Statements Were Racist Irrespective Of Support From White Farmer’s Wife

July 21, 2010 By Egberto Willies

UPDATE: EVERYONE! I WAS WRONG. I AM KEEPING THIS POST UP SIMPLY TO SHOW THAT WE SHOULD NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSION. I WAS DUPED AND SHOULD HAVE SEARCHED FOR THE FULL VIDEO FIRST. TO ANYONE WHO READ THIS, PLEASE ACCEPT MY MOST SINCERE APOLOGIES. MOSTLY I APOLOGIZE TO SHIRLEY SHERROD. WHILE I AM STILL DISTURBED BY HER WORDS “LAWYER OF HIS KIND” I WAS DUPED INTO BELIEVING IT WAS SAID WITH MALICE. IT WAS SOUTHERN THING. PLEASE FIND THE ENTIRE VIDEO AT http://www.naacp.org/news/entry/video_sherrod/ .

I just listened to the video again with unbiased eyes and from within the context of the white farmer’s wife coming to the defense of Mrs. Shirley Sherrod. I think her statements speak for themselves. ….
“lawyer of his kind” or “just enough” help because he was white.

Some may believe because this was long ago and because she used this to show how she changed and understood that the ills in our system were more class-based than race-based, her choice of words may be used against the agency. I do not know her heart, but she admitted that race at one time played a part in her decision making.

While Senator Byrd was a KKK member and racist, he was elected by the people and not appointed. Mrs. Sherrod can continue to work with taxpayer dollars if she is elected.

Anyone proven to have a racial bias and/or acted upon a racial bias, cannot be expected to have the faith of the population at large to serve.
