While the stimulus was not near large enough nor did it have enough infrastructure projects, it provably prevented a depression. Healthcare reform while not everything all liberals wanted is a good start that will stop the bleeding of most Americans’ potential of falling into bankruptcy if they get sick. Financial reform while not hard enough on the bankers and titans of finance, provided some middleclass protections from the evils perpetrated by these industries for years. There were many other less glamorous but important bills passed.
If you repeat anything long enough, many automatically make it their reality and believe it to be true. My mailbox is flooded daily with chain emails with demonstrable lies and misinformation on President Obama and the Democratic Congress. I have followed the mindset of many fairly Conservative acquaintances that voted for Obama who would recite items that they could have only received from emails and email directed Right Wing websites. In other words I have seen how effective the constant un-refuted attacks are. They have temporarily turned many of these acquaintances with plausible sounding misinformation.
While there are many liberal blogs and websites out there, we do not have the volume of feeder emails roaming the internet like the right to bring the middleclass masses to our real information.
In that light, I have a plea. I beg of everyone reading this post to write a substantive email that
- Provide a simple explanation of a critical policy that passed which have a material impact on them.
- Provide a strong note on the Republicans’ objection to this middleclass policy.
- Provide a strong simple and effective narrative stating why a Republican victory will kill that middleclass policy.
- Add links to factual Liberal websites to corroborate your chain email.
- Direct recipient to send an email to everyone in their mailing list.
- Email the chain email to everyone in your mailbox including a reply-all to the Right Wing mailers you get.
This may sound simplistic and it is. That said, the growth is exponential and will play a small part in the work we must do to keep the Congress.
Do not sit out this election because we did not get all that we wanted. If the GOP gets in we lose not only going forward but much of what we’ve attained so far.
