DNC Chairman Tim Kaine Optimistic About November For Democrats

I am convinced that a large part of the enthusiasm gap is media driven, an attempt of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I simply cannot believe that if Americans are delivered the true factual message that a GOP takeover of any Congressional body will be materially catastrophic to their personal financial well-being and the ultimately the viability of the country, they will run to the polls and vote their own interest.

Our country is in trouble and everybody feels it. Most feel helpless. Progressives must do a much better job of distinguishing policies and giving the average middleclass American a sense of empowerment.

image WASHINGTON — Democratic National Committee chairman Tim Kaine says the party is concerned about an "enthusiasm gap" this election year, but there’s still enough time to get a good turnout.

Kaine also tells NBC’s "Today" show that differences exist among Democrats over such issues as the economy and health care because of the party’s diversity, calling that a good thing. He acknowledges that it can be "occasionally maddening."

The former Virginia governor says generic and race-to-race polls since Labor Day "have been moving pretty dramatically in Democrats’ favor." And he adds that some tension within the party is the result of Democrats doing the "heavy lifting" on policy changes. The party is trying to hang onto control of Congress in the Nov. 2 elections.
