The Houston Fire Department Alters Renovation Plan:
Station 30 to Remain in Service during ConstructionHouston Fire Department Chief Terry Garrison today announced that Fire Station 30, located at 6702 Irvington, will remain open during the course of scheduled renovation. The renovation was scheduled as part of the city’s capital improvement plan.
The decision was reached in consultation with the City of Houston General Services Department (GSD) which oversees reconstruction.
Officials from both departments worked together to re-assess the available space required to appropriately provide for living arrangements for on-duty firefighters while being mindful of the impact the change will have on the cost and time-frame for the renovation.
Officials together devised a workable plan that will safely provide for all considerations.
"Our goal is to provide the best services to residents while properly planning for the city’s future needs," said Chief Garrison.
The plan change has been made with the engagement of Council Member Ed Gonzalez who has acted as an advocate for residents who are served by Station 30.
