On Thursday, March 24. 2011, many members of Kingwood Area Democrats (KAD) at the personal invitation of Professor Paul Reyes attended a LoneStar College event to hear David “Big Daddy” Lattin and his personal account regarding the Texas Western College 1966 squad that won the NCAA championship . Mr. Lattin shared his experiences as a member of the first-ever all African American starting five playing for a national championship against the all-white University of Kentucky.
KAD thanks Professor Reyes for a very inspiring evening that championed positive change.
The evening began with the playing of excerpts from the 2006 Disney film Glory Road based on the Mr. Lattin’s college team making it to the 1966 NCAA championship and winning it. Mr. Lattin wrote the book Slam Dunk To Glory (Kindle Edition) which chronicles the story.
