HOUSTON (KTRK) — County Commissioner Jerry Eversole has resigned his post.
Eversole has tendered his resignation as the Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner effective October 1.
"It has been my absolute pleasure to serve the voters of Harris County since 1991. I am very proud of all we’ve accomplished for the County and its residents in those many years," Eversole wrote in a resignation letter to Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and the Harris County commissioners. "I have met many remarkable people in my time at Commissioners Court. The opportunity to work with, and to work for, the citizens of Harris County is something I will always treasure."
Eversole was tried on corruption charges, but the trial ended with a hung jury back in March. He was accused of accepting $100,000 in gifts from a developer in exchange for county contracts. He had been facing up to 21 years in prison if convicted. A second trial was scheduled to begin sometime in October. […CONTINUED…]
