Christians that have zero concept of Christianity–The Cast Of Republican Candidates

imageThe title of this blog is catchy and stolen. One of my Kingwood Area Democrat (Lori) friends sent it to me in an email which was the trigger for this blog.

Rick Perry has just released a new ad with the subliminal message that he is the Christian in the race and as such deserves your vote. I am a humanist that was reared a Christian. Back home I was even known to preach on a few youth Sundays and was amazed that some in the pews gave themselves to the Lord from some of these sermons. Sadly, when I saw this I always felt like a hypocrite because I said all that I was taught to say and not all that I believed. That folks would be moved by what I considered a message from my head and not from God, taught me much about religion (Maranatha Christian Center at UT made me a humanist).

The Christian tenet practiced by most people is just enough to mitigate the “inhumane” portions of our humanity. Inasmuch as I am a humanist I find it amusing that I live what many would otherwise consider a fairly Christian existence (though I don’t go to church except to assist them with computers when needed and I screw up every now and then). The same can be said from most of my other humanist and atheist friends who grew up Christians but later became disenchanted with religion.

Why the preamble? Context my friend.

Is it not ironic that Rick Perry, the governor of a state that cuts the education of middle class students as well as cutting healthcare budgets that materially hurts and likely kills many of his constituency is trumpeting his Christianity while attacking the Christianity of the President even as this President has betted his presidency on providing humane healthcare for most? Is it not ironic that Newt Gingrich, a man of three wives, corrupted lobbying, and just about thrown out of Congress would have the nerve to question the morals of our President, a family man and a man that gave up the Wall Street type bucks to be a community organizer? Is it not ironic that the proclaimed Christian Mormon man Mitt Romney (btw, my mother is a Mormon) who layoff workers in order to extract obscene profits from companies, some that ultimately failed, would criticize the President’s attempt to create jobs with a slight correction on the evil that is supply side economics?

In effect is this not Christians that have zero concept of Christianity.
