About Silvia Mintz

Silvia Mintz was born in Guatemala and immigrated to the United States in 1998.  She has called Houston home since and currently practices family and immigration law at her law firm, Plake & Mintz, PLLC.  Upon arrival in Houston, Silvia worked as a maid and janitor while learning English.  Thereafter, she received her Associates Degree from Houston Community College, her Bachelors degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of St. Thomas, and her law degree from South Texas College of Law.  Silvia has one daughter, Maria, who is a graduate of Taylor High School in Katy and is currently studying chemical engineering in college.  Silvia is a volunteer and board member of various organizations, including the Houston Community College Foundation and Children at Risk.  She also volunteers her time as legal counsel for the Christian organization Pastores en Acción and the Mexican Consulate.
