Can We the People “Be Our Own Government?” — Meet the visionaries and candidates who think the answer is YES!

We all know that our democracy is in trouble. Most of our politicians are for sale either voluntarily or involuntarily. They are controlled by those who have the capital to mobilize advertising, mobilize people, and mobilize the resources that control our lawmaking process and, quite possibly our elections.

Our guests on Sat. Feb. 18th will include some people who have taken it upon themselves to run for Congress, and the man who is helping them do it:

  • Jonathan Greenberg, Executive Director of BeYourGovernment.org and a Coffee Party member
  • Jeanne van den Hurk a candidate for U.S. House in South Carolina and Coffee Party member
  • David Levitt a candidate for the U.S. Senate in California Senate and Coffee Party Member
  • Eric Reyes candidate for U.S. House in Illinois
  • David Esrati candidate for U.S. House in Ohio

Many concentrate on Constitutional amendment as the solution to the cycle of corruption in Washington. Others focus on legislative fixes that might gain the U.S. Supreme Court’s “acceptance.” And others believe in completely removing themselves from the electoral process.

I firmly believe the best answer is all of the above. We must address our political ills through various methods. Unfortunately many in different movements tend to disregard other options and singly focus only on their own projects. This is wrong. We must hear each other out and work together where it makes sense to achieve the ultimate goal of restoring self-governance to the People.

Politics Done Right will dedicate most of our Feb. 18 show to those who believe that change will come at the ballot box by running candidates at the grassroots level who either refuse corporate contributions or insist upon complete transparency in contributions irrespective of the source.

I didn’t have a chance to be on the show because it coincides with Shabbos/Sabbath for me. I am a Democrat running as an Independent (changing my status this week with the FEC) and challenging a very corporately funded Democrat. I am for capping student loan interest at 3% overall, capping credit card rates lower, bringing the military contractors (15,000) in Iraq home and saving more in the military budget. We need massive small energy projects, better mass transit to lower gas consumption, more carpooling again, and better conservation of our water instead of fracking. Many more issues, but I hope they have a repeat on a weeknight or Sunay.
