On March 12th, 2012 at 11:30 the “Don’t Mess With Texas Women” Rally was held at the Women’s Express Bus at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (4600 Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77023). The program was emceed by VP of Communications & Marketing Rochelle Tafolla. There were several state and national politicians present including US Congressman Al Green, US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, State Representative Carol Alvarado, and State Representative Alma Allen that gave impassioned speeches on the war against women effected by Governor Rick Perry, The Right Wing, and The Republican Party.
The President of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast gave a moving speech including references to real world circumstances illustrating how these arcane policies materially affect women. The games being played with the lives of American women mostly by GOP male politicians add another level to the immorality that permeates the leadership and funders of the party.
Attendees of the rally were encouraged to
· Visit and sign the petition at http://DontMessWithTexasWomen.org
· Encourage at least two people to engage
· Text TXWOMEN to 69866.
This was an empowering rally. There was the usual large contingent of right to lifers outside the rally attempting to disrupt.
While personally I abhor abortion, I believe it is a personal matter between a woman, her doctor, and her god. I cannot presume to know or understand what a woman is going through when she makes that decision. Moreover, I find that the same people that display that belligerent overt support for a fetus lack the love, morality, and sensibility for the children after they are born.
These are generally the same people who would deny social programs to make lives better for children. These are the same people that would deny birth control that would in fact prevent the problem in the first place.
