Texas district nine Congressman Al Green was arrested today along with actor George Clooney and at least three other congress persons. These orchestrated arrests were to bring to the forefront the near genocidal violence occurring in the Sudan with insufficient international action.
Congressman Al Green is a perennial supporter of human rights. He uses his position to bring to light both local problems as well as international problems of moral interest. In fact he was in Houston Texas on March 12th, 2012 for the Planned Parenthood “Don’t Mess With Texas Women” Rally to support women’s continued access to all services provided by Planned Parenthood, services at risk by Governor Rick Perry’s actions. His riveting speech was a call to action specifically on women’s rights to contraception but could also be viewed as a call to arms for us all to be actively engaged. His arrest in Washington DC is clear evidence that he does more than just talk.
